Cool Climate Ocean Beauty and
Great Wines
Sonoma Coast Appellation
I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running
tide
Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, And
the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.

Local's Tip:
A hidden treasure for Bodega Bay locals is the bar at
Bodega Harbour. It sits atop the Bluewater Bistro and
looks out over the seaside holes in the links-style golf
course, as well as parts of Doran Beach.
Thursday night is Martini Night, and from 5 pm to 8
pm you will find many locals in attendance listening
to regional live bands that jam on the weekday night. |
(BODEGA BAY, CA) – If a land-locked life is starting to crowd
you in, and like the poet above, you need your sea fix, the Sonoma
Coast is definitely the place to get it.
Interestingly, many people are enjoying vacation rentals along
the coast for lengthy stays, though there are a proliferation
of your very nice-to-very basic hotels,
motels, lodges and B&Bs.
Of course, with all the state and county parks, inexpensive camp
and RV sites with million dollar views are in abundance. They
fill up quickly, though, so if that is your mode of travel, book
ahead.
While Contributing Editor ML Hilton can absolutely do the down-and-dirty,
quick stop for a night at your no-frills chain lodging, when
she is exploring an area she prefers accommodations that offer
up the region’s bounty in its service, suites, and ambiance.

Bay Lodge & Spa.
Beyond the beach combing (and watching the sunsets over the
ocean from your suite) there are other noteworthy activities
along the Sonoma Coast. High on the list? Great
local, fresh seafood prepared with a dedication
to using home-grown produce, and enjoyable activities like playing
golf links-style, or horse-back riding
along the tides-edge.
Then there’s the wine: the cool-climate varietal wines you find
out near the coast, with a style and verve all their own. Here
are four to look for >>>
The Sonoma Coast is a great
getaway for those of us suffering
from urban chafe. The still mostly unspoiled beauty is enhanced
by the friendly locals, world-class wines, great local produce
and a relaxed attitude. |
